The finest chamber music in the finest setting
Update 29th March 2025
LHi everyone After three brilliant recitals this year I confess I wondered how we could follow them for the last concert of our year, but how wrong was I. The Odysseus Trio opened the evening with a thrilling flourish at the start of Beethoven’s wonderful Ghost Trio which left us in no doubt that this was going to be another glorious evening. The second piece, three Whistler Miniatures, by the Scottish composer Helen Grime was more challenging. The cellist did a great job of explaining the music and even better job of humorously explaining the complications of the copies of this virtuosic piece. She required 2 stands and multiple photocopies and extra bits stuck on, likewise the violinist, and charmingly tweeted, as she prepared to play, “the origami continues as we play” The concert closed with a spirited performance of Dvorak’s Dumky trio, a collection of joyously rhythmical dances, which had all our toes tapping. What a delightful end to our season and now we’ll have a wee break before the AGM on 23rd April. I hope you will all come and take part in the business of the Society. But I promise that will all be tied up in half an hour when we will have a short recital by a soprano and piano duo from two up and coming young artists by Music Live. Then we will have a little party to close the season with refreshments and delicious party food! I look forward to seeing you all on 23rd April at 7.30pm in the Old Kirk
