The finest chamber music in the finest setting
Update 15th October 2024
Good morning everyone,
I hope you have all had a stimulating summer break with perhaps some exciting and inspiring music at the East Neuk and Edinburgh Festivals and lots of family time, even a wedding as we have had. But the leaves are turning gold and it’s time to look forward to an exciting new season of chamber music.
Some of you may have listened to the final of the Leeds Piano Competition and heard that the second place was won by Junyan Chen, who you will remember gave us an absolutely fabulous recital with Hugh McKay the cellist last March. She also won two
other prizes and I am thrilled that KMS demonstrates again that it brings the highest calibre of artists to Kirkcaldy. I’m also delighted to tell you that Junyan and Hugh are going to return to play for us again in 2025/26.
So now to the first recital of our new season which will be given by two well established chamber players. Gina McCormack violin, and Nigel Clayton piano, have played as a duo for many years while also combining with many other artists in various combinations. They bring us a beautiful romantic programme, and the beautiful Mozart sonata In Bb K454 with the two instruments intertwining and sharing the themes in a wonderful duet, opens the evening.
The American Amy Beach appears more and more in programmes and deservedly so. It will be interesting to compare this Romance with the Faure in the second half and of course the Faure sonata is a glorious piece to finish what promises to be a very lovely recital.
I’m looking forward so much to seeing you all again and to the start of our new season on Wednesday 16th in the Old Kirk at 7.30
Mairi Rolland
Chairman.
